Swim Team Information

Swim team practice officially starts on Monday, June 12 and will end on Friday, August 4.

WEEK 1: Monday, June 5 – Thursday, June 8 - Tryouts & Reunion Swim

Swimmers who are interested in joining our swim team again this season are invited to attend our free “Dolphins Reunion” & tryouts.  The Dolphin Reunion & tryouts are from Monday, June 5 through Thursday, June 8 in the morning.  During the dolphin reunion, swimmers will be able to reunite with old friends and play some games to build endurance and practice their strokes. This week only will be based on ages:

11 & up – 7 a.m.

10 & under – 8 a.m.

We will use this week to assess which teams you will practice in during the season.

If you know anyone who is interested in joining our swim team, please let them know about our “Try It Out” practices.  These practices are designed for swimmers ages 5-18 who have not participated on the Lowry Swim Team before and would like to” try out” our swim team to see if swim team is right for them.  Swimmers must be able to swim half the length of the pool without stopping and can float on their back without help.

Please remember, coaches will determine what team would best fit your child’s swimming ability.  Here is a description of the three teams just so you have a rough idea of what team your child would most likely participate in.

Silver Team

The Silver Team is a high school prep swim team for swimmers typically 13 and older AND swimmers who are able to swim all the strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle) proficiently/legally for at least one lap (down and back) without stopping. Members on this team will be perfecting all four strokes for efficiency. We will be focusing on building endurance and learning how to swim longer events. Swimmers will also be learning competition skills, working on starts and turns, building endurance, and becoming proficient with interval training (using the pace clock).

Grey Team

The Grey Team is for swimmers who are able to swim ALL of the strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle) proficiently for at least one lap (down and back) without stopping.  Members on this team will be perfecting their strokes for efficiency in all four strokes.  Swimmers will also be learning competition skills, working on starts and turns, building endurance, and becoming proficient with interval training (using the pace clock).

Purple Team

The Purple Team is for swimmers who are able to swim freestyle and backstroke proficiently for at least one length without stopping.  Swimmers on this team should also know the basics of breaststroke and butterfly (kick, arms, breathing).  Swimmers will learn how to swim all the competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle) and will learn the fundamentals of racing starts and turns.  Each practice will be devoted to stroke work and techniques as well as improving endurance through swimming drills.  This team is intended for kids that have swam on swim team previously, however, they are not quite ready for the intensity of the Grey Team.

White Team

The White Team is for swimmers who are able to swim freestyle for half to a full length of the pool without stopping AND can float on his/her back without help.  Swimmers will learn how to swim all the competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle) and will learn the fundamentals of racing starts and turns.  Each practice will be devoted to stroke work and techniques as well as improving endurance through swimming drills.

WEEKS 2 - 9: Monday, June 12 – Thursday, August 3

7 a.m. – 8 a.m. – Practice: Silver & Gray
8:05 a.m. – 9 a.m. - Practice: Purple & White

Friday Practices - Swim Meet Prep-Practices (from 8:30-10:00)

Swim Meet Prep-practices are for all swimmers (everyone is encouraged to come even if you are not attending the meet that weekend). During these practices we will focus on the events the swimmer is swimming in the meet, racing techniques, starts, turns, and the rules of swimming (so swimmers do not get disqualified). This is also an opportunity for swimmers from the Silver, Grey, Purple and White teams to build camaraderie with each other and become supportive of their teammates before the meet.

Also, we would like to invite you to our 14th Annual Lowry Swim Team Open.  This swim meet is open to ALL Lowry Swim Club members ages 5-18.  The swim meet will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 7:00-10:00 a.m. (or until it is over).  Participants will receive 1st through 6th place awards in each swimming event.  There will be no charge for participating in this event.  This is a great opportunity to experience a swim meet, ask questions, and see all that a swim meet entails without making a financial commitment

CARA League Information

This year we will continue to be a part of the CARA League.  In this league, swimmers are allowed to swim a total of 5 events, which include a total of 3 individual events and 2 relays.

The “age up” date was January 1, 2023.  This means whatever your child’s age was on January 1, 2023 is what age group he/she will be swimming in for the meets this summer.

Below are all the individual events that are offered for each age group during the swim meets.

Non-Eligible Swimmers

If any swimmer holds a current USS individual swimming membership, he/she must not participate in any CARA swim meets.  USS restricts their swimmers from swimming in non-sanctioned USS meets.  Also, any swimmer who has placed in the top six places of the USS C level meet (or participates in higher levels) may not participate in any CARA meets.

If this applies to your child, then please know that your child CAN participate in ALL of the Lowry swim meets we have this season at our pool.

Swimmer Information/Emergency Card

I am missing several swimmer information/emergency cards.  ALL swimmers MUST fill out and submit a Swimmer Information/Emergency Card BEFORE the swimmer is allowed to participate in any of the Lowry Swim Team activities.  This is a safety precaution and we appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

To access the paperwork, please click on the NEW link below.  (YOU ONLY NEED TO GO TO THE BELOW LINK IF YOU HAVE NOT FILLED OUT THE PAPERWORK PREVIOUSLY).
